Heart of Texas Regional unemployment rate plummets to 3.5%
Waco, Texas ⎯The regional unemployment rate for the Heart of Texas six-county region continues to trend downward in 2022. The regional rate slid to 3.5% in March, down from 4.2% in February. Unemployment claims increased, with 777 continuing claims in March. Job growth continues in the Heart of Texas area, with over 500 jobs added in March and 7,900 new jobs recovered since March of 2021, as reported on the Texas Workforce Commission’s TexasLMI.com.
The regional unemployment rate of 3.5% for March is comprised of 6,105 unemployed residents in the Heart of Texas area. The region’s unemployment rate is below the state’s (3.9%) and the national unemployment (3.8%), which both saw decreases as well.
All six counties in the Heart of Texas region recorded decreases in unemployment rates. Bosque County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in March at 3.3%. McLennan and Hill Counties followed at 3.4%, and Falls County at 3.6%. Limestone County’s rate was 4.5%, and Freestone County was 5.4%.
