Unemployment rate in the Heart of Texas region continued to increase in February

WACO, Texas – The Heart of Texas region experienced a 0.4% uptick in its unemployment rate compared to January. February’s rate of 4.2% was comprised of 7,633 unemployed individuals, with 999 ongoing unemployment claims. The Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) saw positive job growth, adding 800 new positions.

Freestone County reported the highest unemployment rate at 5.5%, followed by Limestone (4.6%), Falls (4.5%), Hill (4.3%), and McLennan (4.1%). Bosque County reported the lowest unemployment rate at 4%. The region’s unemployment rate is below the state’s (4.4%) and in line with the national rate (4.2%).
