Unemployment rate in the Heart of Texas continues its downward trend

WACO, Texas – The unemployment rate in the Heart of Texas six-county region decreased to 3.1% in December, marking a 0.1% drop from November. The Waco Metropolitan Area saw a decrease of 300 jobs in December, and a net job growth of 3,600 for 2023.

Freestone County had the highest reported unemployment rate at 4.5%, followed by Limestone (4.0%), Falls (3.5%), Hill (3.2%), and McLennan (3.0%).  In contrast, Bosque County reported the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9%. The 3.1% unemployment rate in the region was lower than both the state and national rates (3.5%), as reported by TWC’s TexasLMI.com.
