Spotlight On: Gaylan Beavers
When asked to provide advice to jobseekers and employers, Gaylan Beavers of Tejas Logistics and Chairman of the Heart of Texas Workforce Development Board had this to offer:
“Companies: tighten your belt. If you face layoffs or employee cuts, look to Workforce Solutions for assistance. There are many options to help you and your employees, like the Shared Work Compensation program. However, if layoff or cuts still occur, make sure your employees know you are part of the cuts alongside them. Be truthful to your people.
Jobseekers: dress the part. Present yourself as a neat and smart person. Be pleasant. Be willing to accept a lower paying job but ask what the future holds if you do a good job in the position. Don’t be afraid to ask if you will be considered for the next available position. Be on time and DO NOT miss work. There are lots of people out there who want your job.”
